Letter from Anita McAndrews
a cousin, Morgan Davis sent me your inquiries about your father, Peter.
My husband, Tom, a Panama Canal ships pilot at that time (since deceased)
and I know Peter and Alice very well. They
stayed with us several times in Panama. I think they came through twice
or maybe 3 times.
I was a journalist at the time and I wrote two articles (Panama American
English edition and Star and Heralds, English section) about Peter and
Alice. We loved them dearly.
We made a wild cruise on the Atlantic coast of Costa Rica. I was pregnant
at the time. All we ate was wild pig which was caught, skinned, and
roasted. Oh, we had so many good times.
Was Alice your mother? She was brave, a New York girl, so tanned and
plugging along in her dusty flip flops - fun to know. All our kids loved
love to you, Anita McAndrews
& Peter travelled together in Central America, including Panama
where they met Anita and her husband. Peter wrote Ride
the Volcano, a novelised account of his travel time with Alice
on the 'Rex' 2 years before. Anita wrote several articles for magazines
about them. Today in her 80's Anita lives in the US and paints.
